Road Smart Kickstart
What is Road Smart Kickstart?
Road Smart Kickstart is an engaging and interactive in-school road safety education program that is free for all Western Australian secondary schools.
Students join Mia, Tom and Charlie as they road trip across regional WA and recount experiences that highlight how to stay safe on the road. Together, they move through five hands-on learning stations gaining insights.
Insights into:
- Speed
- Distractions
- Fatigue
- Peer pressure
- Safety gear
Their new-found knowledge is then put to the test as they complete an escape room-style challenge.
Aligned to the WA curriculum, Road Smart Kickstart also allows students to apply their learnings to their school and wider community and get a head-start on applying for road safety grants of up to $5,000.
For more information about the program, including which curriculum areas the program targets, refer to the Program Overview.

Road Smart Kickstart is targeted at students in Years 7 and 8 in regional WA.
The Road Smart Kickstart team takes care of (almost) everything! All schools need to provide is a space for the program to be set up.
Our facilitators guide groups of up to 30 students through the 110-minute incursion. This allows students to deeply engage with the five stations and apply their learnings to the Community Task activity.
A shorter, 55-minute incursion is available if the recommended 110-minute session can’t be accommodated.
To schedule a Road Smart Kickstart incursion at your school, or for any enquiries, please contact roadsmart@rsc.wa.gov.au
